Infertility

A case of infertility occurs when a couple fails to conceive after one year of regular, unprotected intercourse.

The Altamedica center analyzes female and male infertility, looking for its cause and helping the couple on a therapeutic path aimed at achieving pregnancy.

Below we will list the possible causes of male and female infertility.

Male infertility

Male infertility is defined as when a man has reduced reproductive capacity. This is a more common condition than people think; in fact, it affects about one in ten men .

Male infertility: symptoms

Male infertility has no specific symptoms, except in very rare cases, such as in the presence of varicocele, which can cause testicular pain or heaviness.

Male infertility causes

The causes of male infertility can be traced to the following diseases:

  • Varicocele
  • Male hypogonadisms
  • Disorders of sexual differentiation and Transsexualism
  • Pubertal and growth disorders
  • Gynecomastia
  • Erectile deficiency and other diseases of the Penis (La Peyronie’s disease, etc.).
  • Pathologies of ejaculation/orgasm
  • Couple infertility
  • Cryptorchidism
  • Male sexuality disorders
  • Andrological prevention
  • Azoospermia

ALTAMEDICA Assisted Reproductive Center also includes the study, prevention, diagnosis and possible treatment and/or surgery for male infertility.

The initial visit is performed by an andrologist who is part of the PMA team.

Female infertility

Female infertility affects about 15% of women and is often confused with the term infertility. In the former case, achieving pregnancy is more difficult than a normal condition, while in the latter case there is an absolute impossibility of getting pregnant.

Female infertility: symptoms

Female infertility does not always have well-defined symptoms, however, there are bells of arms, such as sudden hair loss, excessive facial hair, irregular or absent cycles.

Causes of female infertility

The causes of female infertility are related to the following factors:

  • Hormonal alterations (anovulatory cycles, polycystic ovary syndrome PCOS, primary and secondary amenorrhea);
  • Tubal factor
  • Uterine malformations
  • Age of the patient
  • Systemic or genetic diseases
  • Cervical abnormalities
  • Endometriosis
  • Vaginismus

Essential for the diagnosis of female infertility is a thorough gynecological examination that gathers a careful history of the patient and her family history.

At our Altamedica Center, in addition to consultation with the specialist, instrumental investigations and diagnostic tests such as:

  • Hormone assays
  • Pelvic ultrasound
  • 3d ultrasound
  • Sonohysterosalpingography (echo)

  • Endometrial biopsy
  • Post Coital Test
